Should I Use Facebook as a Professional Tool?
Do you limit Facebook to personal use only? Are you curious about how you might use it for your career or job search? Even though Facebook is a powerful tool for online social networking, this does not mean that it is the best tool for you.
Not unlike companies you may work for, each social media platform has its own culture. If you like Facebook but prefer to have some separation between your personal and professional online activity, third party applications may be a good option to begin with. Read below to find out more.
BeKnown and BranchOut are examples of third-party applications designed for professional use within the Facebook platform. These are somewhat similar to LinkedIn and include a profile page and job search functions.
If you’re not sure how to install applications, check out the screenshots below using BranchOut as an example.
Be sure to take the time to review your privacy settings in Facebook. Customize them to match your personal preferences.

In the last issue, I talked about how you can use Facebook’s list tool to gather information easily and efficiently. If you missed it you can still read it here. It’s definitely worth checking out if you are already on Facebook, and your target companies have a presence there.
